Digital Storytelling

I was trying to come up with an idea for my digital story and then after a day that consisted of attending a funeral and then a doctor’s appointment with my pregnant wife I came to this idea of time being short. Whenever I attend a funeral I contemplate who I am and the impact that I am making on the world around me. My world view shapes how I view the end of my life and how I want to live out the rest of it on this earth. I will make mistakes and cause pain throughout, but ultimately I want to finish strong and with a clear focus on what is ultimately important.

The voice I used throughout the video was not super formal because when the end is around the corner it does not care about the formalities of language, but the content of our souls and the impact that we have made on those around us.

I learned that putting my pictures with what I wanted to say was sometimes very difficult. I have a lot of pictures that I wanted to include, but they did not fit so I kept them out. Also, writing a script was difficult for me. I did not know exactly what I wanted to say, so it took a few drafts to actually get it to say what I wanted it to say. In the end I think the quality of the content, the pacing, voice, and soundtrack worked well to create a mood that will hopefully draw viewers in.

Podcast #1: David & Goliath

I work at a Christian school and felt that it would be good to incorporate art, math, and the Bible together into a podcast that can move to a variety of topics and conversations. My slogan is “discover Truth through the study of how art and math relate to the Bible”. With this particular podcast I found the interpretations of the man of David to be interesting for each of the four artists and wanted to let others know about this as well!

Throughout the podcast I attempted to describe the statues and symbolism of them so listeners could get an image in their mind of what each statue would look like (AECT Standard 1.2). This could also give the listener an incentive to look up pictures of them online while they are listening or after the podcast. This allows the learner to hear a general overview of each piece and the background information and teaches them while integrating technology (AECT standard 2.4). Art, Math, & the Bible – David & Goliath

Sculpture Presentation

This presentation is intended to introduce the sculpture unit that I work through with my high school art class. It is intended to show them the use of sculpture in culture as well as see a variety of different ones and learn to identify artists with their sculptures. My intent was to show sculpture from the past as well as current sculpture.

I used the multimedia and contiguity principles by using text sparingly and backing up my spoken words with the images that are on the screen. I worked to keep text next to pictures that coincide and even overlapped them a bit to show their inter connectivity. With art it is important for the learners to see it and inspect its elements to understand what makes good sculpture and, in the opinion of some, bad sculpture. It also allows them to form an opinion on what they like and don’t like in sculpture. I worked to keep the slides simple and intentionally did not include entries for the pictures and text. I want the focus to be on the content, not on the fade out, dissolve in, etc. that can sometimes be a distraction (especially to high school students).
