Sculpture Presentation

This presentation is intended to introduce the sculpture unit that I work through with my high school art class. It is intended to show them the use of sculpture in culture as well as see a variety of different ones and learn to identify artists with their sculptures. My intent was to show sculpture from the past as well as current sculpture.

I used the multimedia and contiguity principles by using text sparingly and backing up my spoken words with the images that are on the screen. I worked to keep text next to pictures that coincide and even overlapped them a bit to show their inter connectivity. With art it is important for the learners to see it and inspect its elements to understand what makes good sculpture and, in the opinion of some, bad sculpture. It also allows them to form an opinion on what they like and don’t like in sculpture. I worked to keep the slides simple and intentionally did not include entries for the pictures and text. I want the focus to be on the content, not on the fade out, dissolve in, etc. that can sometimes be a distraction (especially to high school students).

Creating My Learning Log

2.3 Computer-Based Technologies
“Computer-based technologies are ways to produce or deliver materials using microprocessor-based resources” (Seels & Richey, 1994, p. 39). Computer-based technologies represent electronically stored information in the form of digital data. Examples include computer-based instruction(CBI), computer-assisted instruction (CAI), computer-managed instruction (CMI), telecommunications, electronic communications, and global resource/reference access.

As stated in the AECT standard 2.3, a blog is a great platform to “produce and deliver material using microprocessor-based resources” that can be accessed by other learners and the teacher. This platform allows for the use of a variety of media in order to portray the material and content in various ways. It allows for the organization of the material for easy access and creates an organized and simple structure that most users would find easy to navigate. I was going to set it up in pages for each standard, but felt that categorizing it by AECT categories would allow the users to search entries by their association to each AECT standard.

Professional Learning Network Plan

I have joined quite a few of these networks since starting the Ed Tech program and most started out as personal accounts that have been transformed into more professional ones.

When I created this map it showed me that I am involved in quite a few networks that I do not have time to maintain. The Learning Log that I have had to maintain has been a good way to keep track of my work for the Ed Tech program and has given me the idea to start a blog for my class that my students can view. I have created it, but have not started doing anything with it yet. I have not found anymore networks that I feel I need to join, but if I do discover one that will help me teach more effectively, then i will join it.
